13 Translation
& Application

After the Open Studios, I spent this week focusing on professional development and my portfolio. It was a week of translation, taking the long words and complex prototypes of Interaction as Identity and distilling them into a format that speaks to the industry. I spent my time refining how I communicate my research to agencies while applying the technical insights I gained from the research to my own portfolio landing page and design.

Translations

Adding my research to my portfolio was a challenge in communication. I had to ensure that the core message that interaction is a strategic medium wasn't lost in the technical details of the prototype.

I realized that the tools and experiments I built aren't just academic artifacts, but they are evidence of a specific design methodology. I restructured the project case study and tools to capture its essense, while showing the screen recorded videos in strategic layout. It helped me move from explaining the project to demonstrating its value for real-world products.

> Portfolio Landing Page using Spline

To make my portfolio feel as interactive as my research, I created a new interactive 3D bubble element for the landing page using Spline. I wanted something that felt organic, engaging, and responsive, in line with my own creative identity.

Interaction Refinement

I applied the damping and physics logic I learned during the development of Atmost-Forest. By fine-tuning the damping parameters, and the parameters of animation within bubble's texture, I made the bubble react to the cursor with a soft, liquid-like delay. It doesn't just snap to the mouse, but it floats and settles with a sense of weight. It’s a small detail, but it applies the my research directly to my personal brand identity.

Observation & Reflections

This week was also about looking forward. I began reaching out to and reconnecting with agencies and companies where I had conversations before. Presenting my work during these process was a great test for my communication skills. I found that designers at these agencies were not only interested in its own visual outcome but also the process and continued iteration that formed this research.

I also got a chance to attend a presentation from another korean agency online, and heard about the difference between korean and singapore job markets. It was a great chance for me to learn more about the future career paths, not just as a student anymore, but as an independant designer.

I also had talks with Rodolfo from the straits times. He provided a positive feedback towards the research and also provided me with an invitation to their (Society for news design) SND workshop event at SPH Auditorium, which is also a great opportunity for me to hear from global teams with sessions on design and visual storytelling. It also confirmed that there is a real desire in the industry to move beyond standard functional utility and explore more expressive, branded experiences.

Next Steps

Looking forward, I have just a few weeks until the final submission and viva voice. I am going to focus on documenting my work better with photos and videos, and optimizing atmost for mobile versions.
